Early records indicate that Durham County Cat Club, was founded in 1974.
Durham County Cat Club became affiliated to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (G.C.C.F.) at a council meeting held on the, 22 nd October 1980.
The Clubs first Championship Show was held on 26 th May 1984, which was also the year of the club's 10th birthday
Maiden Castle Sports ground, in Durham City was the venue for the 8 th Championship Show in 1991, and remained the venue until it's 15 th Championship Show in 1998.
Nissan Sports & Social Club, Washington, has hosted
the 16th to 25th Championship Shows.
This included it's Millenium
Year Show (the seventeenth) and a Special Silver Jubliee Show to mark the
club's 25th show in 2008.
The club 'web' site first went on-line on the 8 th December 1999. This was followed by the first ever on-line show schedule in March 2000, the club's own domain name was registered in the same month.
In the past the club has made regular donations to the GCCF Ringworm appeal, which has sponsored research into the disease
The club also offers support to local animal welfare organisations at it's Championship Show each year
